Project context and summary :
Mosquitoes are vectors for flaviviruses such as dengue virus or Zika virus that cause a substantial public health burden worldwide. These vectors are also infected with insect-specific flaviviruses that can only replicate in mosquitoes and are unable to replicate in cells of vertebrate organisms, such as humans. Many of them were discovered and sequenced in the last few decades. Despite several studies on their phylogenetic analysis to date, the analysis should be regularly updated. Therefore, the objective of the project is two-fold: (i) perform an extensive phylogenetic analysis of insect-specific flaviviruses comparing different methods and software; (ii) establish the best possible pipeline for phylogenetic analysis of insect-specific flaviviruses using the best fitting methodological approach and software.
